The narrator uses Miss Emily’s house and the people close to her to help the readers understand who Miss Emily was. They described who entered and left Miss Emily’s life and how it seemed to affect her. She came from an aristocratic family and throughout her life she felt pressured to be something she was not. With the help of her father, she was shaped up to who she was. Without him in her life she began to feel lost and lonely. An important quote from the story is, “We did not say she was crazy then.” (Faulkner, 285). After her father died, she could not accept the fact that her father was gone. We can infer that the narrator is one of the townspeople because in the first sentence of the story it says “our whole town went to her funeral.” (Faulkner, 281). They were in denial about her psychological issues. Although Miss Emily never really got over the death of her father, another man came into her life.
