Miss Newaukum Valley Scholarship Essay

How can you be a leader in your community? Community involvement not only strengthens a person, but, also introduces them to new life experiences. The Miss Newaukum Valley Scholarship Program introduces courageous young girls into the world through community service without all of the elements of a pageant. The Miss Thurston County Scholarship Program, on the other hand, focuses on platforms and community involvement through the glitz and glamour of the pageant world. While these titles have unique differences, they also have similar community involvement opportunities.

I have had many people come up to me during my reign as Miss Newaukum Valley and tell me how delighted they are to have a new pageant program in Lewis County. Unfortunately, I have to politely correct them on their lack of knowledge for the new program. The Miss Newaukum Valley Scholarship Program is simply a scholarship program, not a pageant. It is a title that focuses on community activities and events such as grand openings, fairs and parades. To win the crown, a contestant has to have a GPA of a 3.0 or higher, provide a resume based on their community and school involvement, attend a series of classes on government, finance, etiquette and the

What this implies is that it is a separate program in its entirety and does not lead into any of the “Miss” titles. In contrast, Miss Thurston County goes on to compete for the Miss Washington crown after she achieves her title. Miss Washington then goes on to compete with the rest of the 49 states for the title of Miss USA, Miss USA then competes for Miss America and Miss America then competes for Miss Universe. Not only do the two programs differ in their ability to lead or not to lead into other programs, they are also different based on their geographic location.
