“Miss Pross had nothing beautiful about her; years had not tamed the wildness, or softened the grimness, of her appearance; but, she too was a determined woman in her different way, and she measured Madame Defarge with her eyes, every inch.” (Dickens 321). Miss Pross is a static character. Pross loves Lucie and would give her life for her, she treats Lucie like her own daughter, and she would do anything for her which includes committing a sin at the end of the story to protect her. Some people think that the sin was justifiable, some do not. Miss Pross is big, tough, brawny, and fiercely loyal to her mistress, Lucie. She is Solomon Pross's sister and hates the French. From her first appearance, she scares Mr. Lorry. Miss Pross establishes herself as a fun character, but also a character that is loyal and loves Lucie. Without having Miss Pross in the book, the story would not seem right. Since Lucie was soft and fragile, she needed someone there for her to help her through life and protect her. When she first entered, Mr. Lorry thought she was a man because she entered so quickly. She then goes to show her soft side, while still being bossy to Mr. Lorry. She is very protective over Lucie and pays very close attention to her. Miss Pross seems ready to leap into battle for Lucie at any time. “I’ll not leave a handful of that dark hair upon your head if you lay a finger on me!’” (Dickens 322).
