With the costs to participate and complete a residential day reporting center program running up to nearly 25% less than traditional incarceration for the same time period, it can be seen that there are financial benefits to this type of alternative sentencing. Politically, using an alternative approach to incarceration shows that the government administration has a concern for all members of the community including those who are guilty of the criminal offense, the family members of those sentenced individuals, the local employers who would benefit from maintaining their workforce, as well as the taxpayers who would not have to support such a large expense for retribution, especially if recidivism rates can be significantly impacted through the program
Case 2 - 6 Chargemaster Maintenance What plan would you come up with? The chargemaster is one of the most important financial aspect of a healthcare facility or hospital because the amounts listed on the chargemaster is what is charged to the patients. If the chargemaster has the wrong amounts on there, the hospital will be either losing revenue is the costs are lower than what they should be or they will be overcharging the patient. This will also be viewed as committing fraud against CMS and the hospital will ultimately be held responsible and would have to incur fines and penalties.
One may easily go past the Arlington County Detention Facility without noticing a multistory building that has reflective windows is actually a jail that has 200 employees that secure and hold a typical inmate population of approximately 500 inmates (slightly larger male-to-female population). Burrowed between multiple office and apartment buildings, is the jail located at 1435 N. Courthouse Road, and it is conveniently situated within a block from the Courthouse Metro station and the courthouse where the criminals are tried. On a recent tour of the facility with my classmates and I took on October 15, 2015, we got the opportunity to tour the jail in its entirety, learn about the booking and jail assignment process, while experiencing the daily
As a result of these privileges given to the inmates upon their arrival, the prisoner have no real incentive to follow the rules and regulations therefore prison officials must bribe and coerced them. A way to fix the defects of total power, prison officials should change or eliminate the reward system. Instead of providing inmates with rewards upon their arrivals at the prison, guards should use a positive reinforcement system where inmates get to enjoy certain privileges if and only if they follow the rules and regulations of the prison. Another structural defects are the inadequacies of the prison staff. Almost half of all the guards at the New Jersey State prison were temporary employees.
The Supreme Court found the denial of medical care to prisoners incompatible with evolving standards of decency and running afoul of the Eighth Amendment, which prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. The Court imposed the obligation of providing adequate medical care on prisons because “[a]n inmate must rely on prison authorities to treat his medical needs; if the authorities fail to do so, those needs will not be met.” To deny such care could result in pain and suffering. The Court concluded that the Eighth Amendment is violated when corrections officials display “deliberate indifference” to an inmate’s medical needs. Deliberate indifference is the conscious or reckless disregard of the consequences of one’s acts or
Why the prison system is flawed The american prison system is flawed and should be changed because it is very expensive to keep it running the way it is, the prison system is helping gangs grow and it can be fixed it is possible. I believe that it needs to change so that cities will have more tax money to fix other things and the people who don't deserve to get released won't be. The prison system is very expensive for taxpayers because they have to pay to employ the officers, they have to pay for the building, the tools, the food for them to eat, there clothing and bedding.
Many of the prisoners are incarnated for petty drug charges or unfair sentencing as a consequence the prisons is overpopulated and causes confusion. The Three Strikes and you’re out policy will have the
It’s estimated that it cost $150 a day to incarcerate a
“A good first step forward is to start treating prisoners as a human being, not profiting from their incarceration.” ( Bernie Sanders). The prison system is only thinking about money because they don't care the effect it has in people's life when they are sentenced unfairly. The U.S Prison system is unfair, and two of the most important aspects to understand about it are the war on drugs and racism. One important aspect of the U.S Prison system is the war on drugs and how they go to jail for an unreasonable amount of time for having a small amount of drugs on them and when they have to go to prison it affects the prisoner's family.
Are prisons not paying people enough? If so, should prisoners be paid minimum wage? The answer is no, prisoners should not be paid minimum wage for multiple reasons. The taxes and cost would be much to high, they’re in prison for a reason and a punishment is well deserved and if prisons paid high amounts then people could possibly go their on purpose.
Hospital Readmission has a high burden to both healthcare systems and patients. Most readmission is thought to be related to the quality of healthcare system. In the US, nearly 20 percent of Medicare patients are readmitted within 30 days after discharge and related with an estimated annual cost of 17 billion (1). Hospital readmission for patients early after an inpatient stay can be a traumatic experience (2).
Prisons’ general health services should include regular assessment for prisoners,
More people get incarcerated for non-violent crimes and crimes caused by mental illnesses or drug abuse (Webb, 2009) and because these people get put in regular prisons, instead of in mental health facilities or facilities to help against drug addiction, where they could be treated to further prevent crimes driven by their illness (Webb, 2009), the prisons get overfilled and cannot hold the more ‘important’ prisoners that needed to be locked away from the public. A strong link of the criminal justice process is that the system tries to keep it fair for everyone. Every defendant has the right to an attorney so they can be defended properly and fairly and “Only judges who are adequately informed about a case can effectively control the proceedings and examine evidence” (Tochilovsky, 2002) It is also important for the criminal justice system that those involved show discretion and although this is not always the case, discretion by the judges, police, etc.
Being on time is one of the most common things you can find in any policy that is out there, whether it is for a job, school, and even the military. Being on time is one of the simplest of things that you can do to show that you have discipline, respect, and responsibility. This can also be one of the key factors that can hinder you from you reaching your goals, and completing any task that you need to complete. Missions and operations have many moving and connecting pieces that function together as a whole depending on a time sensitive plan. Being on time is probably the most common requirement in anything that you will do in life.
Professionalism as Bartollas and Siegel define it “refers to a set of character strengths and personal values directed at providing the highest quality service to others in the workplace, both colleagues and clients” (2013). In the field of corrections, professionalism affects not only those working in the facility or those imprisoned within its walls, but the families of inmates and officers /correctional staff, the local community, and the relationships within the law enforcement community as well. As discussed in the text, there are several areas in which professionalism in the field of corrections must address to effectively maintain if’s facilities. While there have been significant gains in recent years, there are still areas which continue
