A mission statement explains what it is that the organization does. It describes what purpose the organization serves. It serves as a guide for those within the organization, as well as stakeholders from outside the organization the purpose and goals of the organization.

A vision statement is where the organization sees itself going in the next 5 to 10 years. A vision statement sets goals that an organization is committed on attaining. The organizations strategy should be in alignment with the organizations vision statement.

Values should be a reflection of the organizations leaders, and should provide an ethical and moral platform on which individuals in the organization should model themselves after. Much like you …show more content…

A well-worded vision statement should be the goals that all within the organization are striving towards. The organizations mission, values and goals should dictate the strategic planning process, and all should be aligned and in sync.

At times, the organizations vision or mission statements may need to be redone. If the direction of the organization changes, the mission statement may need to be changed (Spath & Abraham, 2013). For instance, if the organization was previously focused on its surgical services, but now is specialized in cancer care, the mission statement may need to be adjusted. Also, the organizations vision statement may need to be adjusted if its original goals have been attained. New goals, and a new vision statement would then need to be created (Spath & Abraham, 2013).

If I were a department manager, I would remind myself on a daily basis what our organizations values, missions and goals are, and are focused on being an example of these in the way that I conducted business. When making tough decision, I would remind myself of our mission, our values and our goals, and use these to help guide me through the decision making process. I would try to instill these values on my staff, and would refresh every one of them during our monthly meetings, and would have discussions on what these values mean to them, and how they
