Missy Elliot is one of the greatest female MC’s of her time. Elliott is a Grammy winning female rapper who took the game by storm with hits such as “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It”. She has four Grammy’s and was the first female MC to be invited into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On top of her vast collection of awards, Elliott is a role model for young people everywhere. She has done countless amounts of charity work and makes it an important mission of hers to give back to the community. Missy’s first step to fame was in a group she created with her friend Sista. Sista got signed to a label but they were never able to put out music through it. Later when Sista broke up Elliott started to create her own music produced by her producer friend Timbaland or Tim Mosley, her first song was called “That's What Little Girls are made of”, this song was written for actress Raven Symone. In 1997 Missy Varner 1 Elliot released her first album “Supa Dupa Fly” ; this album was put out by her own record label “Goldmind”. Supa Dupa Fly was a hit and went platinum, also giving her the title of “Rapper of the Year” by Rolling Stone. Elliot then went on to collaborate with stars such as Whitney Houston and Mel B from the Spice Girls. During her prime Missy Elliot was progressive and a brilliant example of Black women enriching the rap industry, she stayed true to herself and through fashion expressed her one of a kind personality.
