13 Reasons why was published as a book in 2007, 10 years ago. 10 years later, it was produced as a tv show. Both have a lot in common since they are based on the same plot. They are both about a girl that committed suicide and left 13 tapes explaining who caused her to kill herself and what they had done to her.
One of the differences is that in the book this take place on the same night meanwhile in the show it takes place over several weeks. In the show since it was narrated by Hannah Baker herself, it caused for all the events to take over several weeks while in the book the events occurred on the same night. The reason for her parents suing the school is because they thought that the school could’ve prevented Hannah’s death in a way. The thing that made it really awkward was that the lawyer representing Liberty High School was no other then Clay’s mother.
Another difference, is that at the end of the show Alex one of the guys on the tapes and a main character is shot, either he committed suicide or someone shot him. It is still unknown what happened to him, but all that we know is that he was shot in the head and was on his way to the hospital. No one knows what exactly happened, if there is a season 2, then it may be revealed what actually happened.
In the show Clay’s friend try to stop him from keeping the cycle going of passing the tapes of to the next person. This did not at all happen in the book. It caused drama and for the rest of the people that had heard the tapes to gang up and try to sort of “scare” Clay into not passing the tapes along anymore. They think that more people need to hear these tapes after how bad the tapes have hurt the people that have listened to them. They gang up on Clay to the point where they throw him in a car with Alex driving, before being shot in the head, and speeding until they got stopped by a police
