But did you know that the main suspect for the murder, Lee Harvey Oswald, was also assassinated two days after the killing of John F. Kennedy.
On April 4, 1968, Dr. King Jr. was assassinated by a sniper outside his hotel room in Memphis, Tennessee. His death, along with robert Kennedy was a major loss in Civil Rights’ leadership. Robert Kennedy was a former attorney general and presidential candidate who was assassinated shortly after winning California presidential primary with a campaign that pledged to bring the races together. After Dr.King’s death people to be shocked and outraged, resulting in riots in more than 130 cities.
Shortly after 6 pm on April 4th, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. At the time, King was at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee . As he was standing on the balcony of his hotel room, he was struck in the head by a sniper. The assassin was none other than a man known as James Earl Ray. It is theorized that James Earl Ray had worked alone in the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.. James Earl Ray was a man known for his racial prejudice.
On June 8, authorities captured the man that was believed to be Dr. King’s assassin, the small time criminal James Earl Ray. He was captured in London’s Heathrow Airport. Eye witnesses said they saw Ray fleeing from a house near the Lorraine Motel carrying a bundle. Prosecutors said that Ray fired the bullet that killed Dr. King from a bathroom in the building. Ray’s fingerprints were found on the rifle used to kill Dr. King, also on a scope and a pair of binoculars.
Growing up was unfair for MLK JR. He and every other african american citizen had been treated unfairly. They had been segregated and hated, but why? They only difference is their skin color, their all the same on the inside. MLK knew that it was wrong to have segregation.
