Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very influential and pivotal leader in the civil rights movement, but the success of the movement was the result of collective efforts of many leaders and activists. Some of these people included Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks, who both had very urgent and courageous actions. Rosa Parks had a very prominent action that sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott that played a very crucial role in the movement. As well as organizations such as the NAACP and SNCC, provided support and help in direction. While Dr. King's contributions were very monumental, the broader civil rights movement was driven by many individuals and groups. Her arrest then started a 381-day boycott of the Montgomery bus system which was organized by the Montgomery Improvement Association which was led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Britannica) The boycott was successful leading to a Supreme Court decision that declared segregation on public buses unconstitutional. (Britannica) These acts made by Parks and the boycott were very critical in creating national attention and pushing for the civil rights movement. In contrast to the nonviolent approach led by Dr. King, Malcom X advocated for Black empowerment and self defense.
