Over the years, many Psychologists have identified many specific strategies to help people encode, store, and retrieve information. These strategies can be used to improve your study skills immensely throughout not only this class but in all of your classes. Some strategies that really help me would have to be things like using mnemonics, practicing over time, and quizzing. Through these strategies, I am able to greatly improve my study skills through all of my classes.

Mnemonics is an extremely helpful strategy while helping to study for my classes. They are techniques that allow you to form associations with the material that you are learning. Mnemonics are especially useful for remembering information, that is not well structured. It provides that structure that the information needs to be stored in your long term memory in an organized way and be retrieved when needed (like on a test). you use things like acronyms, acrostics, and even associations. Last minute cramming is an awful way to help memory. To avoid cramming being able to practice small amounts at a time daily will decrease your chance of cramming and increase long term memory! Practicing over time allows you to rehearse the material over and over until the material is completely learned. If you do not practice the material, it is a lot less likely to transfer into long-term memory, and you will have difficulty remembering the information later down the road. There are many ways of doing this you could do anything from reading over the material repeatedly and copying the material down to reading and creating outlines and predicting and creating test questions. With this, I am able to make the material meaningful to me and I am able to remember both the simple and the complex information
