When Moana, an adventurous young girl sees that her whole island is suffering due to lack of food, she makes a decision to sail across the sea after being told by her grandma that the reason behind the island’s darkness is due to Maui stealing the heart of Te Fiti. Her grandma explains that the only way to save the island and get rid of all the darkness is by finding Maui and convincing him to sail across the sea to restore the heart. Through her journey, Maui finds Maui with the help of the water and convinces him to travel with her. Together they experience dangerous situations and encounter dangerous creatures that challenge them, but nothing stops them from sailing to Te Fiti. Moana would express her thoughts and feelings to her grandma since neither her father or mother understood her desire to sail the ocean. The ocean always grabbed Moana’s attention ever since she was a little girl, but her father always kept her away from it whenever she attempted to get near it. Therefore, her grandmother would take her to the ocean without her father knowing. The same day her grandmother died. Moana was told that the ocean had choose her to sail across the sea to restore the heart of Te Fiti and that it would both guide and protect her. That same day her grandmother took her to where Moana’s father kept the ships the voyagers would use to sail and was automatically inspired to go out and save her people. Moana was told by her grandmother to go out and save the world before dying because she was always going to be with her wherever she went to. This comes to show how close Moana and her grandmother were and that things were not going to be any different even if she was dead. During the beginning of Moana’s journey, her grandmother even appeared as a stingray to help her find Maui. Moana followed the stingray until it disappeared and kept going in the same direction. At a later point in the movie, her grandmother appeared in the ship after Maui decided to leave her alone.
