The theme of Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins is that you need to have courage to overcome your enemies. In the book citizens are trying to rebel against the government and become free. Katnissś symbol and the symbol of the rebellion is a mockingjay. A mockingjay is a hybrid creature. This symbolises how the capitol can’t control all living creatures because hybrids have broken free of the capitol. In the book it states, “Maybe it's because I still have the ashes of my own district on my shoes, but for the first time, I give the people of 13 something I have withheld from them: credit. For staying alive against all odds.”(2.82) This is showing the need for courage to stay alive even though it seems like they cant. The symbolism of a mockingjay
