People of Today (A Discussion on Modern Characters I Think Should be in General Prologue.) People all over the world have different personalities and different characteristics. Different countries, and different societies shape people to have certain characteristics and values. During the 12th century this was still the case about society. People fit into different characteristics and different social Statues. Geoffrey Chaucer was a man during the 12th century that a view on different things going on during the time period. He is known as the father of the English language and used his literary works to critic his opinion on class nobility, patriocracy, and the problems within the church. The student is viewed as a younger person that is learning to become educated and smart to make something out of themselves. The student is described to do schoolwork, be engaged with the teacher, and obey to the commands they are told. The satire in this character is, while their are some students who do follow those requirements, often students don't listen to the teacher, and even back talk the teacher. Students cheat, and don't actually learn the material they are required to study. They even at times will simply not to assignments that are assigned to them. Students today don’t care about the education and learning, they care about passing the class and graduating. The learning part of school has been replaced with the just trying to graduate mindset. The student for the General Prologue would use satire to describe the perfect student, when often there aren't many perfect students. In conclusion, Geoffrey Chaucer during the 12th century took different characters he observed during this time period, and critiqued how they were supposed to be, and how these people actually were. People are never what they seem to be and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales shows this idea with the satire he uses to describe each character. The three characters that I view important to ass to his General Prologue is the president, criminals, and the student. Today they are all viewed in a certain way that can often be a wrong viewing of
