In 1816, Mary Shelley and her friends Jane Clairmont, Lord Byron, John Polidori got to together on a rainy day in Switzerland to tell ghost stories. This was the birth of Frankenstein. Frankenstein is about a man who dared to do what no mortal has ever done, create life. Though he was successful, in the end, he had lost everything. this book was subtitled The Modern Day Prometheus. Prometheus was a Titian Who was ordered by Zeus to create man. He had obeyed Zeus’ order to do so, but disobeyed him, and tricked him. He began his journey in the medical field by reading many books in the field of medical science, but when he got to college all of the information became useless do to all the many advances made in the past couple years. He had studied very hard until he had a revelation, and set out to find a way the reanimate the human body. He began robbing graveyard and collecting body parts to create a man like creature that was proportional larger than the average human. He ended up being successful in reanimating the body, but became frightened and abandoned his creation. Zeus ordered Prometheus to make humans, but unfortunately his brother, Epimetheus, gave all the good qualities to the other creatures on the planet, so Prometheus gave man fire. Frankenstein had promised a mate for his creation, because of all the pain he caused him by abandoning him,”I am alone, and miserable; man will not associate with me”(Shelly). Victor’s Creation only asked for companionship, and he would leave Frankenstein, and his family alone to just be happy and peaceful with his partner, but immediately after creating a partner for him he killed her out of fear, and selfishness for not wanting to take responsibility for what he had created. Because of Prometheus’ hate towards the Olympians, he decided to trick Zeus, like Frankenstein did his creation. Prometheus gave Zeus two options to have from the sacrifices that the humans would make. One pile was bones wrapped in fat and the other pile had the good meats hidden in the pile of hide.
