Everyone wants a society that is perfect in every way, but this is not possible. The book, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, contains a society that tried to be perfect, but the society ended up in a situation that is far from perfect. They wanted to avoid anything unpleasant. As a result of getting rid of anything unpleasant, there are many things missing in the society, such as books, thinking, and a sense of morality in the citizens. Modern society still has a sense of morality in its people. Dystopian societies, like the society in Fahrenheit 451, usually has no sense of morality in its people. The people of Fahrenheit 451 resort to violence in order to calm themselves down. In modern society, people do other things to calm themselves down. They do things such as running and thinking about the thing that angered them to calm themselves down. Modern society is also not manipulated to believe certain things to be true by the government. In the book, the government manipulated the society into doing things that don’t require thinking at all. When Montag fooled the government when they were chasing after him, the government manipulated the footage of the chase so that the society believed that Montag was dead. If most governments in modern society tried to manipulate information to trick the society that something is true when it is false, they would receive lots of backlash from the people. In fact, this might be the catalyst for people in the government to be impeached. The people in modern society wants to know the truth about an event that happened. One more reason why modern society is not a dystopian society is that the people in modern society doesn’t ignore the flaws in their society. Unlike the people society of Fahrenheit 451, who don’t even think about all of the flaws in their society, the people in modern society knows the problems in their society. They are trying to fix the major problems, like the school system. In America, the school system is slowly changing into one that involves more hands-on projects and critical thinking. While still not perfect or finished at this moment in time, it is still an improvement over the old school system that prepares students for factory work. Modern society doesn’t have enough problems to be a dystopian
