Modernism was a time period widely influenced by industrial and technological innovations that had been occurring throughout the United States. With great advancements in machinery, transportation, and communication, World War One was a war like no other before it. Compared to past wars, one big difference was that WW1 was the beginning of trench warfare. Due to the newly popularized machine gun, soldiers were able to shoot with much more accuracy and distance.
