Directed by Christopher Nolan, Momento is about a man named Leonard who suffers from anterograde amnesia after the tragedy of his wife being raped and surviving an attempted murder. He makes it a quest to find his wife’s assaulter and take vengeance. Teddy, a cop who has been following his case reveals the truth to Leonard: he has already killed the man who raped his wife and is looking for a made up man. Due to his condition, Leonard can’t remember the occasion, nor can he feel the satisfaction he’d hope to feel. Leonard’s short-term memory allows him to deny the harsh reality of his life therefore, he fabricates a life he’d much rather live in. events:The first unexpected event would be when Leonard continuously talks about how much he misses his wife but tries to burn several of her belongings. Second is when we discover John G., known as Teddy, is actually a cop and not the rapist and/or murderer of Leonard’s wife. Third is when Leonard murders Jimmy. We then understand Natalie’s resentment and hostility toward Leonard. Lastly, the audience finds out that Leonard’s client, “Sammy Jankis” is actually Leonard himself. He has a tattoo on his chest that says, “JOHN G. RAPED AND MURDERED MY WIFE”. Throughout the movie, Leonard tries to gather evidence to find his wife’s assaulter because he wants to kill him.
A key idea of the movie was the way it was presented. The narrative was presented two different ways: in color and in black&white. While the black&white aspect of the narrative was presented in chronological order, the color portion wasn’t. I believe the narrative’s shown in color to experience Leonard’s mental state with anterograde amnesia, as it was jumbled and sometimes confusing to follow.
The film ends with Leonard tricking himself into believing Teddy, or John G. is his wife’s assaulter, in which he’ll end up
