The authors of the two texts “The Monkey's Paw” and “Don't Look Behind You” effectively created suspense through the use of dramatic elements. The two texts use imagery to create suspense. Dialogue creates suspense in “ The Monkey's paw” and “Don't look behind you”. Description of characters fears/ anxiety creates suspense in the two texts. Therefore these two texts create suspense because, it makes the readers think. Imagery creates suspense in the two texts. For example in “The Monkey's paw’ it states, “He sat alone in the darkness, gazing at the dying fire and seeing faces in it.” This shows that we may be worried because, he is alone in the dark and he is seeing faces IN the fire. Another example from “The Monkey’s paw” is, “The knocking ceased suddenly, although the echoes of it were still in the house.” …show more content…

For example in the text “The Monkey's paw”, it states, “a fine crash from the piano greeted the words, interrupted by a shuddering cry from the old man.”. This shows that the man was Afraid of the paw. Another example from “The monkey's paw” is, “He cried, with a glance of disgust at the object.”. This shows that the paw was not something he should have been messing with. Furthermore in, “Don't Look Behind you” it states, “i could not move. I was not capable of screaming. All I could do was stand there, frozen.” April was so scared she couldn't even move… so we should be scared for her.
