Monkey's Paw Theme Essay

The story elements of character, setting, and plot contribute to the theme because the details from each of the elements build the events in the story. With these events, we are able to determine the greater meaning of the story, called theme.
In the “Monkey’s Paw,” the characters contribute to the theme because of the decisions they make. As we know, the White family wishes for 200 pounds. But they receive this wish in a less than flattering way. In paragraph 91 it says, “The firm wished me to convey their sincere sympathy with you in your great loss, he said, without looking round.” It then says in paragraph 93, “They admit no liability at all, but in consideration of your son's services, they wish to present you with a certain sum as compensation.”
