Marigold’s flute Marigold walks down the street and watches the parade, clutching her flute tightly to her chest, her long blonde hair flowing against her short body. When the King rides by in a horse-drawn carriage, Marigold raises her flute to a playing position. Marigold starts playing a beautiful song, wishing the King wouldn’t notice. After each parade, Marigold liked to play her song for the village people, but she started playing too soon and the King was still in earshot. He stopped the carriage and shouted, “What is that racket?”. It doesn’t sound like my music. Who is playing this music? She steps up to the king and bows her apology as the King says, “You are banned from playing your, thing, ever again.” The crowd gasps as Marigold bows her apology again and runs away crying, clutching her flute close to her. The next day, Marigold’s oldest sister, Tesla, comforts her until she can’t cry anymore. “You know,” Tesla says loudly, “I’m tired of everyone having to listen to the King’s so-called song. I’m going to go up to his castle and tell him to knock it off.” “Yeah,” her family shouts as Tesla walks up to the castle. Later that night, Tesla came home crying. “The King said, ‘Why are you comforting such a fool? You shall be punished by the law. One extra month of work in the fields during the summer.’” Marigold starts crying. A few days later, Abbie tells Marigold that she is tired and can’t stand the king. “Someone must stop him”. I don’t care what he does to me. If I help you, Marigold, it could influence others too, and then everyone could be free.” She smiles as she walks up the street and into the castle. Violet the rabbit walks up to her and says, “Amazing”. Beautiful as always. Did the city love it as always” Marigold sighs and replies sadly, “Thank you, but the King has banished me from ever playing my flute again. What do I do Violet?” All the animals gasp at what the King did and one small deer says, “He shouldn’t be able to do that. Let's go and protest against him.” All of Marigold’s animal friends come with her and they march down the street, and as Marigold plays her flute, they chant, “Let Marigold play her flute.” Over and over again as the people cheer from their doorsteps. The guards catch on quickly to what they are doing and pretend not to notice as they march down to the throne room, still chanting. The King yells at them to stop and asks, “What is the meaning of this?” The animals replied, “We want Marigold to be able to play her flute, and we want everyone to be able to listen to whatever music they want.” The King got madder and madder as they protested around the castle until he couldn’t take it anymore, and all of a sudden the ground started shaking and sent the king flying into the sun.
