NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL are set up as four monopolies that dominate the U.S. professional sports industry. There’s this law called the federal antitrust law, the primary source of monitoring the industry, would usually be expected to provide a looking eye on any anti competitive, monopolistic behavior that either organization would commit. However, they have come up short in implementing this policy to the leagues due to both their well covered monopoly status and their different level of coordination necessary among the respective teams. “The four organizations today each, get the chance to enjoy unregulated monopoly status in what is estimated to be a $67 billion industry.” (Grow 5).
