Ethical culture is established by the values and norms created by an organization that influences stakeholder expectations (Ferrell, Thorne, & Ferrell, 2016). An organization should strive to achieve organizational “values and norms that meet the expectations of stakeholders” (Ferrell, Thorne, & Ferrell, 2016, p. 12). Ethical issues or concerns are always going to exist when business decisions are necessary (Ferrell, Thorne, & Ferrell, 2016). If an organization establishes socially enforced values it will be easier for decision makers to focus on the decision(s) that best fit the organizational values and norms. “Monsanto has taken action in addressing environmental and health concerns” and the EPA can vouch for them since the EPA has studied and approved everything that Monsanto has created (Ferrell, Thorne, & Ferrell, 2016, p. 432). In response to the world’s population increase and a decrease in land and water resources, Monsanto Company “has developed a three-tiered commitment policy” (Ferrell, Thorne, & Ferrell, 2016, p. 434). This policy shows Monsanto’s commitment and goals to promote sustainable agriculture through innovations that increase crop yields, improve conservation of resources, and to produce products that improve processes and the lives of farmers (Ferrell, Thorne, & Ferrell, 2016). The CEO has communicated the need for everyone to work together in an effort to increase “food, fiber, and energy while protecting the environment” (Ferrell, Thorne, & Ferrell, 2016, p. 434). Statements like that and developing strategic goals and policies is the CEO’s way of communicating and implementing improved social responsibilities for the Monsanto Company and its reputation amongst society (Ferrell, Thorne, & Ferrell, 2016).
