There are countless methods and curriculums that exist, all varying in ideas, philosophies, and development. So which method is the best? That is all how a person perceives and weighs the different methods. Each model has benefits and goals that each aim to achieve. When comparing and contrasting the Montessori Method and the Waldorf educational Approach, there are a wide multitude of differences as well as similarities. While both the Montessori Method and the Waldorf Educational Approach strive to create productive members of society, they differ in their philosophies and the teaching processes. Maria Montessori, creator of the Montessori Method, was from Italy and worked as a physician educator, and innovator for her method of education. Her method views the child as on who is eager to learn and initiating the learning process. This method values the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child. These two methods are growing at a fast rates in the educational system across the nation, they both have a respect for the creativity of the child and sees the child as an individual. Each value the developmental process even if they have different ways of teaching and communication their process. Both methods also base their education on the needs of each child. By doing this both methods believe that this will lead each child to develop responsibility and freedom that will meet the needs of the child as well as society. Both also provide a wide variety in art, music, dance, and theater. All of these contribute to the creative process in which is an important aspect of both methods (Stephenson).
