Montgomery Bus Boycott On December 1, 1955 in Montgomery Alabama , Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. For this reason she was arrested. This sparked more hatred against the unjust and unfair rules against African Americans in the U.S. A bunch of Civil Rights leaders who led a peaceful boycott against the city buses. African American refused to ride buses till the laws were changed and they were equal among all people. This was known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Rosa Parks was coming home from work on a city bus. She had taken a seat in the front row of the colored section. Martin Luther King Jr.'s dad and grandfather were both pastors. Martin Luther king Jr's dad was a minister at the Ebenezer Baptist Church. "The Ebenezer Baptist church was like a second home to Martin."3 This is where Martin learned how to speak in front of people, and get along with different kinds of people. So when Martin Luther King Jr. took a job as a pasture at Dexter Avenue Baptist church in Montgomery Alabama he was following in his families footsteps. This job also gave him the ability to talk about the unfair rules against African Americans to a large crowd. Martin Luther King Jr. got the job at Dexter Avenue Church because of his great sermons and his ability to speak to people and his ability to get them to listen. Martin Luther King Jr. married Coretta Scott June 18, 1943 in her families back yard. They had four children together.
