The Montgomery Bus Boycott is one of the most well known and successful civil rights movements involving two of the most prominent figures in civil rights Dr, King and Rosa Parks. The boycott took place between December 5, 1955 and December 20, 1956 in Montgomery, Alabama. The purpose of desegregating the city busses. The Montgomery Bus Boycott came into being because of injustice against a few people who wouldn’t take it anymore. It accomplished its goal of desegregated busses because of the average citizen who alone couldn’t do all that much. But together changed not just the Montgomery busses accomplishing the goal of the boycott and bringing them one step closer to equality. Rosa Louise McCauley was born in Tuskegee Alabama February 4, 1913(The History Channel). She lives with her parents, brother and grandparents until her parents separated (The History Channel). At 19 she married Raymond Parks, after which she completed her college education and became a big member in her local NAACP chapter(The History Channel). It is clear that she was very into civil rights even before what happened on the bus. Another prominent figure was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He became the president of the Montgomery bus boycott. He was chosen because he was young, energetic, well known and had few enemies(The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica). Most black people tried to avoid the busses because they felt they were demanding. Despite that 70% of the riders were black(The History Channel). The front of the bus was reserved for white people and the back was for black people(The History Channel). Black people would go through the front to pay and then enter through the back door. City and bus code weren't very specific about who had to give up seats for who and how the driver should react(The History Channel). Incidents involving black people had been happening again and again for quite some time and tension was growing. Pretty soon it would erupt all it would take is one high profile case.
