Month Of August Report

The months of August and September have been very full both with the traditional duties of the Senate Vice-Chair along with many other new and ever changing challenges and opportunities. Throughout the two months, I have been able to develop relationships with each member on the Senate and gain a general understanding of what the best ways will be to spur the team on in serving students, growing personally, and growing as a team. This report will detail and discuss three main topics throughout the month including my personal work and accomplishments, the work of each Senator, and the work of Elizabeth Henderson, the Senate Secretary and Outreach Coordinator. These events included several different socials, the clubs fair, 30 Minute Rush, Ignite, FCC Tabling and the ASGCU Open House. I enjoyed the socials and actually took a lot from them as I was convicted of the importance of having intentional conversations with a few students instead of surface level with many. This approach led to me having conversations lasting from 10-45 minutes with students and developing relationships that I still have today. The clubs fair was very successful and had the best turnout when compared to any previous year. 30 Minute Rush was not very successful due to the heat that was present and the rush that most students had to proceed to the food lines. I greatly enjoyed the one on ones that I was able to have in August and September, many of which were filled with very intentional conversations that deepened our relationships quickly. I did a wide variety of activities from playing Ticket to Ride to bowling to having a meal together. The only problem that I have experienced with one on ones is that team members are not scheduling them as often and promptly as I would like, and I plan to address this in the coming months. My student interaction has also been very productive over the last few months. I have been able to have many intentional and genuine conversations with students that have shed light on important topics to be addressed this year.
