The Montpelier Fire Department is responsible for providing for protection and emergency medical services to the city of Montpelier, state capital and anchor of central Vermont commerce. Though the listed population for the city is just above 8,000, the daytime number swells to roughly twice that, as state employees, business owners and tourists work in and visit our city. Thus, though our relatively small full-time fir department is rooted in a traditional Vermont town, it also is now charged with facing bigger-city challenges.
