Mood for The Most Dangerous Game Hunting is the best sport in the world for the hunter, but not for the hunted. Rainsford has been on both ends of that statement, and barely escaping his greatest enemy, General Zaroff. Rainsford was a big time hunter and a rich and ignorant man. But after a tragic boating accident, Rainsford was left stranded on ‘Ship Trap Island’ left to die. And after some time exploring the extremely dangerous and tropical lands of the island. And it's ironic because later in the story he regrets saying that when he becomes the ‘jaguar’. Another thing to point out is that they admitted that hunting is “The best sport in the world,” agreed Rainsford. “For the hunter,” amended Whitney. “Not for the jaguar.”(16) this ties to when he said that jaguars don't have feelings. This also foreshadows the plot later in the story quite a bit. But yet again it's kind of ironic to say that the best sport in the world is only 1 sided, the hunted isn't having a whole lot of fun when someone is trying to hunt them. And this is already implied heavily even in the title of all places. In the title of “The Most Dangerous Game” it might just sound like any edgy title but when your done reading the story you can clearly see that the plot has been foreshadowed the entire time. Because the title “The Most Dangerous Game” is a play on words. The most dangerous game can be depicted as the act of being hunted by someone for sport is extremely deadly for the person being hunted. And the fact that someone hunting you isnt something you escape from. They know where you are at all times and you have be on top of your toes at any
