Just over ten years ago, Cloverfield was released to the public. The movie starts off as a group friends prepare for a going away party. During the party, New York City begins to start having mysterious earthquakes and power outages. The entire movie follows the group of friends as they try to get to their friend stuck in her apartment building, and then getting out of the city while trying to avoid whatever is terrorising the city. 10 years later, The Cloverfield Paradox was released.
Numerous screenwriters and directors have often dealt in their films with the theme of borders, whether literal and officially recognised, like military ranks or state frontiers, or abstract and metaphorical, like those of morality, justice, race, and gender, along with several others. As a consequence, as John Gibbs points out, one could assemble these movies, especially those taking place on the confines between Mexico and United States, under the label of ‘border films’ (2002: 27); thus contextualising them in a very specific tradition, which includes pictures such as Touch of Evil (Orson Welles 1958) or The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (Tommy Lee Jones 2005). We live in a society that has increasingly demoralizes love, depicting it as cruel, superficial and full of complications. Nowadays it is easy for people to claim that they are in love, even when their actions say otherwise, and it is just as easy to claim that they are not when they indeed are. Real love is difficult to find and keeping it alive is even harder, especially when one must overcome their own anxieties and uncertainties to embrace its presence. This is the main theme depicted in Russell Banks’ short story “Sarah Cole: A Type of Love Story,” as well as in Richard Bausch’s “The Fireman’s Wife.” These narratives, although similar in some ways, are completely different types of love stories.
In the film adaptation of the novel, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, some of the original aspects that make the novel so timeless are not included in the movie. However, due to the vastly different medium that film is and the abstractness of the novel, it makes sense why some things would have to change in order for the story to transfer to the screen successfully. While many die-hard fans of the novel denounce the film version of their beloved story, others celebrate the presence of Adams’ wit in the movie especially through the cartoon representations of the guide entries. First of all, the Hitchhiker’s Guide is pictured much differently in the movie than in the novel.
The Cold War is often seen as a dark time in American history, not just because of the international conflict, but because of the strife it caused within the United States itself. After a successful escape from attempted murder by Phillip Vandamm (James Mason), Roger Thornhill begins a journey to search for George Kaplan. On his itinerary, he meets the beautiful Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint). A romantic relationship is started between the two, leaving Thornhill to believe that Even Kendall would cooperate and help him to meet Kaplan.
In 2004 the film “Motorcycle Diaries” was released depicting the motorcycle journey that Ernesto “Che” Guevara and Alberto Granado took throughout South America. This journey was important because it influenced Guevara’s political ideals and led to his involvement in the cuban revolution and his famous persona as “Che”. The Director Walter Salles understood the importance of the story and wanted to tell it in a less political more emotionally based light (Confluencia, pg.109.) Salles did a great deal of research over a span of three years for this film. He spoke with family members of Alberto and Ernesto, he followed the journey to find realistic shooting locations and studied asthma, leprosy and Inca history (Travelogue, pg16).
Revision Review of Hitch While the movie Hitch captures its audience by providing comic relief and relationship advice, there are aspects and parts in the movie that could be improved to provide more enjoyment to the viewers. The plot line is well-developed overall as it is a typical romantic comedy, yet it can be too predictable at times. From the moment when actors Will Smith, who plays Alex Hitchens and Eva Mendes, who plays Sara Melas meet, there was an instant attraction, and from that moment forward, the audience is able to predict the way the movie will transpire. The film ‘Good Will Hunting’ directed by Gus Van Sant is a movie which follows the life of Will Hunting who is gifted with astonishing skills for maths but whom suffered with a fear of abandonment. He developed a defense mechanism which affected his ability to create long lasting relationships. An important extract from the movie is the scene ‘ It’s not your fault’. This scene conveyed the impact of childhood traumas, the effects of suppressed emotions and the idea of soulmates. These ideas were manifested through the use of various film techniques, such as camera shots and movements, music and dialogue.

The movie Flyboys is historically inaccurate with its props, characters, and events that used in the movie to portray the dogfights, lives, and situations of the pilots of the Lafayette Escadrille squadron during WWI. In the movie Flyboys the characters they use are based off of real life people that flew and fought in the war, but the characters do not have any relation to the where they are from in the movie to where they are at in real life. The main character who it is based off of was born in Phoenix, Arizona but in the movie it says he is originally from Aberdeen, Texas. The character that the movie is based off of his name is Frank Luke.
