Moral absolutism is the ethical belief that there are absolute standards where actions can be judged as right or wrong, regardless of the context of the act. Absolute moral rules are difficult to universalize, thus they are difficult for everyone everywhere to abide by them. When I think of absolutism, I think of the ten commandments in the Bible. Commandments such as; Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not kill, and Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife, all are examples of absolute standards and rules. For true believers under no circumstance are these commandments to be broken. A person cannot claim to be an absolutist yet believe that murder is allowed in self defense, this belief is more along the lines of situation dependence. Immanuel
