As you might know that World War 1 was a bloody, long, and tiring war that was four years long. The battles that took place during this war will shape and change America forever. Some of the most memorable battles that took place happened in World War 1. A lot of the battles that took place had a huge impact on who was going to come out victorious and who was going to come out losing the war. The causes of any war are always a good thing to look at and to make sure that in the future the same thing that happened doesn’t happen again. A lot of memorable battles in American history come from World War 1, one battle that left me in amazement was the battle of Belleau Wood. The battle of Belleau Wood was one of the most important tactically. The battle was also very big and a lot of men had died on both sides of the war. The battle was very tough but was still very successful for the Americans. In late May the Germans punctured through the western border just now 45 miles to Paris. With the guidance of their General John H Pershing, the American troops pushed the Germans out of the woods. They also prepared an attack against the Germans that retreated in the woods (History). …show more content…

The marines had planned many battles in the forest area of the woods but the Germans General Erich refused them from winning. General Erich wanted to plan sneaky by bringing men into the back. The Germans would then after the enemy could not see the attack that there were planning would with large machine guns, artillery and gas. On June 6th the battle was ended but the Americans lost a lot with 10,000 lost, wounded or killed. This battle was one were the Americans lost a lot of troops but most importantly they won and had stopped the Germans from taking over the woods
