"I would like to be known as a person who is concerned about freedom and equality and justice and prosperity for all people." (Parks). In 1955, who would have known that Rosa Parks would be considered and named; "The Mother of the Civil Rights Movement"? Who would have predicted that this movement was the beginning of a new type of freedom, freedom in which African-Americans and whites would combine together and racism would end. From slavery to freedom, from no rights to having them all, from a quiet voice to freedom of speech, the African-American people of the U.S.A have overcome many obstacles in which they are proud and is written in the history of this country. Many people suffered due to racism, and over time thanks to great people the suffering stopped. Race was defined as; " a biological subspecies, or variety of a species, consisting of a more or less distinct population with anatomical traits that distinguish it clearly from other races”(O’Neil). This definition was used to divide humankind by the physical appearance; today it does not have that much scientific meaning. It determines the characteristics of a culture and the history behind it.
