The agency that I am evaluating is Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Mothers Against Drunk Driving, formerly known as Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, is a nonprofit organization that was formed on September 5, 1980. MADD was founded in California by Candance Ligthner a mother whose 13-year-old daughter Cari was killed by a drunk driver. The purpose of MADD as stated in their mission statement is “to aid the victims of crimes performed by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to aid the families of such victims, and to increase public awareness of the problem of drinking and drugged driving”. There are no lesson plans on the MADD website so the resource that I found to be most appealing to high school students is the Toolkit for Student Leaders. I personally think that these resources can be used for grades 9 – 12. The Toolkit for Student Leaders includes activities that are geared toward preventing underage drinking. The toolkit includes a fact sheet with statistics, general information on underage drinking, group activity ideas, tips for saying no to underage drinking, and a booklet to help educate and empower the students. There is an activity in the toolkit where the students can incorporate using social media that I thought would be a good idea since student love to be on their phones. If children wanted to navigate the website to find information that is related towards them it would have to be the tab that is on Underage Drinking. Although I believe the information that MADD presents can be used for everybody no matter the age I also believe that the information is more so geared for teenagers. Even though the information is geared towards teenagers I feel that the website should also have some information for children that are younger. Although the MADD website presents a few resources that I could use in the classroom I wish it would have had more group activities and more ways that I can present the information. Yes, as a teacher I can show my students a video and then we can have group discussions but what about having more hands-on activities.
