The main purpose of this chapter is to determine the Founding Fathers’ motives for creating the Constitution by analyzing a secondary source by Woody Holton, and several primary sources. Frist, I will begin with the secondary source, “Unruly Americans and the Origins of the Constitution” by Woody Holton. Mr. Holton’s main purpose was to locate the motivation behind the Constitution in developments in the states (page 90). The preamble is an introduction to an amazing piece of history, two in particular pieces of history today. What is the Preamble? The Preamble is the beginning of the American Constitution which was written by Governor Morris. It describes the purpose of the government and highlights the difference between the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation. One of the phrases in the preamble is “ We the people of the United States of America”. In the past, this phrase only referred to the wealthy, white males, but now it includes all the citizens of the United States.
In the Preamble to the Constitution, the author used the verb form of parallel structure. In line two of the preamble, the author’s use of the verbs, “establish, insure, provide, promote, and secure”, are examples of the author using parallel structure to show ways of forming a perfect union. The author wants to establish the things you will need in order to have a perfect union. In lines 2-4, “establish justice… insure domestic tranquility… provide for the common defense… promote the general welfare… secure the blessings…” The author is using parallel structure to focus the reader on the verbs to show the reader what a perfect union has, and to be a perfect union this is what you need.

The writers of the Constitution wanted people to have protection and freedom. They wanted there to be more peace in the world. By starting the Preamble with the words “We the People,” the writers shows that the United States created this plan intending to govern themselves.
After the United States declared independence from Great Britain. The Article of Confederation and Perpetual Union was the first constitution of the United States. After a year of reflection, it was submitted to the states for ratification in 1777. It was not approved until 1781. After weak years with the Article of Confederation, in 1789 the Constitution was adopted.
The first 10 amendments to the Constitution make up the Bill of Rights which was written by James Madison. He wrote The Bill Of Rights in response of calls from several states for greater constitutional protection of individual liberties. The people who signed the declaration made a promise to protect the people from the government. The colonist wanted to keep their rights because they had a fear of a tyrannical government. People believed and were taught that The Bill Of Rights came from the desire to protect the liberties won in the American Revolution.

Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. ”When it says establish justice ensure domestic tranquility, it means it will ensure justice for people, and ensure domestic tranquillity means to keep the peace in America. This part of the preamble is important to me because it keeps peace between people who have different looks on things and with different backgrounds. In the preamble it also stated “secure the blessing to ourselves and are posterity”. That means it saves our blessings of our hard earned rights and keeps us free and from a tyranny government.
