Motown is a well-known record corporation that was founded in the mid 1900’s. Motown has helped shape America due to its contributions since its founding. The corporation reshaped the music industry, signed and produced artist that would go on to become huge stars. Motown still has its fair share of action in today’s music industry. Motown is a living piece of history that has still remained relevant today. Motown Records Corporation was founded in 1959 by Berry Gordy. The corporation started off in Detroit Michigan before growing to be one of the most successful black owned businesses in history. Despite this his talent and passion were songwriting. He began his career by writing singles for the singer Jackie Wilson but this did not get him far. It was not until in 1959 that he discovered William “Smokey” Robinson established his company. It was name Motown because it is short for Motor City. 0The 1960’s are the years that Motown bean to establish its place in music of America. The company was filled with talented locals but still could be heard around the country. The music was wide spread because of the dozens of successful solo artists within the company. This list includes the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Mary Wells.
