HallOfTheMountainKings A giant cave - located in southern Greece, first discovered in 1958, and called Alepotrypa (foxhole), might well have helped inspire myths of the ancient Greek underworld Hades. This gigantic cavern system once housed hundreds of people in what was, potentially one of the oldest and most important prehistoric villages in Europe. Before, that is the whole complex collapsed killing everyone within. Early prehistoric Europe might well have been more complex than previously thought if the complex settlement seen in this cave - along with other sites from about the same time - are anything to go by. Greek officials originally saw this as a potential tourist attraction but archaeologists led efforts to keep destructive tourism
