Most books should not be turned into movies and Benjamin Buttons was no exception. Taking a short story that was intriguing, thought provoking and unique and turning it into a long drawn out movie about a sappy romance was not the best direction for this work of fiction. The actors who play the characters in the film Benjamin Button worked remarkably well together and made the movie exceptionally realistic. Brad Pitt as Benjamin Button and Cate Blanchett as Daisy (Hildegarde), and they portray the romance between their two characters with striking reality. However well the actors played their roles, the plot of Benjamin Button the movie was drastically different from the short story “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” which was a mistake. It begins when Benjamin is left on the doorstep of Queenie’s house (played by Taraji P. Henson) in New Orleans, by his birth father due to his strange appearance and after his mother died in childbirth. It goes on to show how over time Benjamin becomes younger and experiences more of life, it also emphasizes the romance between Benjamin and Daisy. As Benjamin grows younger and Daisy grows older, they fall in love and never fall out until Daisy informs Benjamin that she is pregnant. On their child’s first birthday however, Benjamin leaves both the baby and Daisy so that she does not have to raise both the child and Benjamin when he regresses back to a child. Later, as Benjamin is physically about five years old, he finds his way back to his childhood home and Daisy moves in to take care of him as he aged backwards and finally, held him as he died.
