Brady’s parents were Galynn Patricia and Thomas Brady Sr., and he was raised Roman Catholic. In his childhood, Brady was a fan of Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers during the 1980s. Montana served as a role model of Brady as he become obsessed with the game of football at a young age. During his teenage years, Brady went to Junipero High School in San Mateo, California and, eventually, he graduated from St. Mary’s Cathedral in 1995. During this time, Brady was listed as seventh in the depth chart, which greatly reduced his self-confidence. After hiring a sports psychologist, Brady was able to recover his sense of self worth and he continued to pursue football at the collegiate level. Eventually Brady worked with assistant athletic director, Greg Harden, and he soon became a starter for the Wolverines for that last two years of his college career. During this time, Brady had overcome many of the psychological that would eventually make him #199 compensatory pick in 2000 NFL draft during the 6th round by New England patriots. During the 2000 season, Brady was a fourth string backup quarterback, but injuries to Drew Bledsoe and the other quarterbacks led to his being used as replacement player until he became a starter in 2001 to the present …show more content…

Harden had taught Brady how to throw a football, and to develop the tools that would n\be needed at the next level. Brady’s perseverance and self-confidence allowed to excel with The Wolverines, and to eventually play in the Orange Bowl as a college career highlight. After college, Brady would remain consistent with the values of self-confidence that allowed Brady to become, yet again, another back up quarterback with the New England Patriots. No matter what role he had, Brady had given himself the opportunity to get access to the starting quarterback position in 2000 and in 2001. This is one reason why harden and the other members of Brady’s coaching staff called him the “Comeback Kid” because of his ability to win games at the last moment of the game: “So they call him the Comeback Kid” (Bellamy, 2013, p.34). During his time with the Patriots, bready was able to overcome adversity by “hanging in there” and allowing himself the right opportunity to win games, and to overcome the obstacles of not being a “child star” as part of his struggles to retain his starting position.
