Migration DBQ The United States of America has, and will always be, a country where immigrants and refugees can migrate to, internally and internationally, to vastly improve their lives. During the late 19th century in the US, there was a massive influx of immigrants from all over the world, as well as movement of people already living in the US to different areas. These people were primarily seeking better job opportunities due to numerous economic issues in foreign countries and social tensions in the post-Reconstruction US.
At the age of____, I left everything behind in Armenia and migrated into the United States of America to start a new life. Even though I love my paternal land and do not forget where I come from, the fact that I could pursue a career and become a productive member of the society encouraged me to move to America. To my great misfortune, I was persecuted for being politically active in my own country and I could no longer fight with the authorities for violating my civil rights. When making a permanent move to a new location it is known as migration, but what triggers this movement? It all relates to push and pull factors of why one may move or leave to a new country/territory/state. The factors that contribute to this is through economic, political, cultural, and environmental. Since the 1820’s till now there has been a big move of US citizens to California but lets dig deeper as to exactly what may have influenced them to make this move.
When I was six years old, living in Ethiopia, my dad won an American green card visa lottery among 53,000 people. Although it was exciting news, family members were discouraged because my dad could not afford the visa processing and traveling expense. However, he found a sponsor in Seattle, which allowed him to settle in America. As soon as he found a good house and a stable job, he started the process for me and my family. Multiple errors and obstacles delayed our processing for five years.

As I ponder over my life, each memory seems identical to the other, and I find myself drifting through a reality of similar events that generate the same memories and emotions. Looking back further into my childhood includes memories of my homeland. I remember entering a new world at the age of five, where all of my later memories would be formed. This was when my family moved to the United States from Peru, my native country in the South. The complete change in culture and values truly impacted me when I first moved to Florida, and I reflect over the significant effect it has had on my character during the last thirteen years of my life.
Traveling to a country much different from one’s home can be life changing. Recently having traveled to a small community in Costa Rica, my life has been changed. I experienced a culture unlike my everyday experience. I realized the major difference between what is needed and what is wanted. This experience challenged me to think about my own personal values and beliefs and ultimately changed my world view.
9. Migration is a personal choice for all. Some individuals may choose to leave a place for a new and better way of life, or may be tired of the place they have been living for so many years. There has been many instances of migration both in and out of the United States for several years. In the 19th century, many individuals chose to leave the crowded east coast and move to the middle of the country.
Living in a potent economic country, immigrants like us have found more chances of employment from low skilled level to professional level with increased salary. We can get better pay compared to what we can get in our country. The dollar value is also much higher and more stable than many other countries’ currency which gives us a chance to support relatives still residing back in our native land. Finally, we come to the United States because we have our families already residing here and we desire to be reunited with them.
Immigration Back Then and Now Immigration has been one of the major issues in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The United States started becoming more urbanized and many Americans were moving from rural areas to the cities and this is what attracted many immigrants to come to the United States. Immigrants came from different parts of the world such as East Asia, Western Europe, and northern and southern Europe. Besides the U.S. is becoming a land of opportunity, immigrants have also traveled to South America and Australia, but more than 70 percent of them chosen to travel to North America.
The reasons for immigration are various. Individuals decide to move to another country due to social, economic, political or ecological factors (see Piesse 2014). .
Every person has his own home, his own comfort zone and his own piece of mind. Leaving your own home may alter one’s stability and disturb his whole life. People usually migrate aiming for a better life standards, opportunities or for safety conditions. There are two ways for migration, it’s either legal migration or using the illegal road. llegal immigration has been a very big problem in the United states for a long time.
Moving to a new country can be difficult sometimes. Leaving all my relatives and friends back home was the saddest thing for me. My mother told me that we were moving to a new country. At first, I thought my mother was joking about it. but little did I know that she was telling the truth.
