The small town of Sighet, also known as Sighetu Marmatiei, is located today in Transylvania, Romania. Through the years, Sighet has had strong ties to the Jewish religion, just as it does today. The town has been part of both Romania and Hungary at times, and has seen a decreasing number of residents since 1944. During the 1940s, anti-Jewish sentiment was at its peak, with Adolf Hitler being the face of the anti-Jewish movement. By 1944, World War I had started, and more than 14,000 Jews resided in Sighet, but by the end of May of the same year, none remained, and Sighet was comparable to a ghost town.
In Night by Elie Wiesel and Surviving Auschwitz by Primo Levi, the two authors portray the attitudes during selection differently. In Night, Elie tells how the guards are saying brutal things very calmly, “Men to the left! Women to the right! Eight words spoken quietly, indifferently, without emotion. ”
Theme Analysis Essay: Having and Losing Faith In God Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right that protects all people. Religions faith can be tested under certain circumstances, which can falter the relationship one can have with their God. In the memoir Night, by Elie Wiesel, the author creates the universal theme that religious faith is questioned and challenged during traumatic events. Throughout the story, we see many relationships with God scarcely survive, and some completely fail entirely. For the duration of the memoir, Wiesel uses plenty of narrative elements to help convey this theme.
“Night” is a memoir from Eli Wiesel. Elie writes about how the holocaust was a horrible period of punishment and torture for many who were disfavored, especially the Jews, and that one of these Jews was himself. He wrote “Night”, based on his life in the ghettos and extermination camps during the holocaust. All throughout the story he displayed many traits. Eli is very significant because he was able to live and tell about the holocaust.
When they reach the camp they are sepperated men on one side then woman on the other. This is the last time he sees his mother and sister. After that his plan throughout the camp is to stick with his father no matter what. As they are walking a man comes up to him and asks him his age. When he says 15 the man tells him “No you are 18” and then asks Eli’s father how only he is.

Night/Theme Elie Wiesels memoir is called Night because night is associated with fear, loneliness, and darkness. Elie felt all of these thing through the holocaust. Elie compared himself to the religious story of Job, Elie feels like God let atrocities and persecution happen to good men who did nothing wrong. They did not deserve any part of what was happening to them. In this quote Elie is saying I did not deserve this horrible matter to happen to me, I practiced my religion and had lots of faith and you still let this horrible stuff happen to me.
“Night” is a poem by Hilda Doolittle better known as H.D. Born in Pennsylvania on September 10, 1998. The work of H.D was “characterized by the intense strength of her image economy of language and use of classical mythology”. Mythology is the myths of a group of people depending on each culture. While classical is a long established event or idea or also traditional, HD used traditional myths to create each poem. She was also the leader of the imagist movement which was very important at that time.
The 1940s were a dark time in the world, but they were especially dark for the Jews. The Holocaust was a horrendous genocide that occurred during this time. Elie Weisel’s memoir Night tells of his teenage experience during the Holocaust. Night is a story with many themes, these themes help readers understand and sympathize with those who were tortured and murdered in the Holocaust. He does this to ensure this can never happen again.
Before this I had never attended a classical concert, so this was a new experience for me. This concert was worthwhile because not only was it affordable, it was also great for the price. Each song made me feel different, I could sense the emotion coming from these songs and the way the musicians played together added a feeling of satisfactory altogether. The venue had a large impact on the performance. The Nightingale Concert Hall provided great acoustics for the performances and fit well with the overall style of the concert.
After viewing Moonlight, which was personally my favorite film of the year, I choose to analyze the scene when Blue takes Chiron to the ocean and teaches him to swim (17:20-19:30). This scene first drew my attention because of Blue’s character. The dynamic of a crack dealer with a heart-of-gold has this duality about it where my heart tells me to love him as a person, but my head tells me that this person is Chiron’s mother’s dealer, and I should despise him for it. Yet, when I watch this scene I can’t help but think of how much I love Blue as a character. He is able to fill in for the role of a father figure, and teach Chiron about life.

Maturity of Kate Chopin’s “Ripe Figs” The author Kate Chopin is a woman born in the 1800’s who wrote about individuality of women and understanding a woman’s viewpoint during this time. How women were perceived back in the 19th century culturally and economically was as if they were property to be owned by anyone who pleases. An analysis of Chopin’s, “Ripe Figs” will show the use of theme through: religion, patience, and maturity by relating the maturity process to the seasons of the year and the ripening of the figs.
