Joe is a caring person who loves simon and wants to be there for him. In the movie at a ball game Simon was up to bat and Joe was the only one cheering him on. Joe still loves simon even though Simon killed his mother. When Joe found out who his father was he didn’t want to believe it was the preacher. The preacher had treated Simon so badly.
Blood may be thicker than water, but pride can be thicker than both blood and water. Pride can be life or death. Pride can be good or bad. In the story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst the narrator’s pride ruled over his actions and decisions. The narrator’s pride lead to the death of his little brother, Doodle.
Not only does Joe show the cruelty through the stories of brutal and inhumane treatment of people in the past but he also shows the cruelty in his own treatment after he breaks through the silent barrier of communication. Joe has just broken the barrier with his tapping of morse code, the nurse and the individual who knows morse code understand what he is trying to do. The unknown individual and Joe have a very simple conversation which ends with the crushing of all Joe’s hopes for a real life, “What you ask is against regulations who are you” (page 235). Lewis once quoted, “A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and of, course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you.” This exemplifies the genuine idea of what pride can do to a soul. Many never fully acknowledge the sincere people who sit around them, and the beauties these individuals hold. Similarly, in Hurst’s, “The Scarlet Ibis,” Doodle’s older brother, the narrator, is driven to push Doodle to succeed in various activities, because he cannot seem to see Doodle’s “inner beauty.” As the thought of making Doodle the best he can be, and displaying his “inner beauty,” eventually leads to a horrific tragedy.

James Hurst’s short story ” The Scarlet Ibis” tells a story about two brothers who have mixed feelings for each other. Doodle, crippled and mental, really loves his brother and all he wants is to please his brother and his family. Unfortunately, his brother doesn’t like him because he wanted a brother he could play with. He also believes that Doodle is a burden to him because he has to take him wherever he goes and has to take care of him.
This is a reflection of who Joe was in the beginning of the book, where he was just another kid with no worries. It is ironic because of who Joe has developed into and what he's been through. However, by the end of the chapter, Joe is portrayed as a child who is dependent on his parents to bring him back home. His young age is an obstacle but it also provides some protection as he would be tried as a juvenile and no one really suspects him. 13-year-old Joe is already making well-advanced decisions that no regular 13-year-old would be making at this age.
Growing up we 've read picture books that have introduced us to literature, wildly funny characters and taught us how to use our imagination. However, have you ever thought maybe these children books aren 't just for entertainment? What if they have hidden messages with racist undertones or represent political movements. Sometimes what we see is not always what you get so I 've studied two popular children 's figures, Curious George and Babar the Elephant.
The Radicalized Mind Joesph Strorm is a loyal brute, an extremist. He is an unwavering leader to Waknuk and the Repentances. He would sacrifice anything for his religion. Joseph is the kind of character that will do what he believes in with asking anyone one else. He is very cantankerous and hard to deal with and is a huge threat to David.
The Creature knows that the old man won 't judge him for his outer appearance, so, he goes to talk with the old blind man when the others are out of the house. He has spent so much time watching these people and learning their language, and, he is very dependent on his plan to work so he can be accepted by humans. His plan works, but, then Felix and the rest of the Delacy family return while he is still in the presence of the old man. Felix beats him up. The Creature leaves in despair realizing all the time and effort he had wasted (96).

The narrator wished for a perfect brother that his would be able to do things with but when he wasn’t given that it caused him to do things that no brother should ever do or think about doing to his younger brother.

Although they believed they succeeded, the villagers were unable to fully determine the elephant’s appearance because they could not fully assess the situation; the traveler take advantage of their foolishness, as he believes he already knows the essence of the elephant. Several villagers begin to describe parts of the elephant, based on touch, as “a leather fan,” “a rough, hairy pillar,” “a cool, smooth staff,” and even an “overturned washing tub.” Eventually the villagers conclude “that the elephant was in fact an enormous, gentle ox with a stretched nose. ”(Mays 14)
In section 27 when Joe comes to see Pip, he treats Joe in an alternate way than before on the grounds that Joe was currently in a lower social class. His sentiments about Joe 's entry were "Not with delight... I had the most keen affectability as to his being seen by Drummle." (p. 203). He was unable to avoid the fact that Drummle will look down on him due to Joe 's lower class.
