Throughout the story “A Man Who Had No Eyes” Mr. Parsons reveals different character traits, which by the end of the story, gives a pretty clear picture of who he is as a person.
Mr. Parsons is a person who became a successful person after having a major setback in his life, causing him to lose his eye-sight. Firstly, this fact really emphasizes what type of person he becomes during times of struggle. Instead of surrendering to the hardships of blindness, he got back up and worked until he got where he wanted to be. This also proves him to be an optimist. When in the darkest of times, despite the pulling urge of giving up, he looked for the bright side and decided to fight for what he deserves. On his way up the ladder of success, Mr. Parsons made sure to remain humble as shown many times during the encounter with Markwardt.
As Markwardt turned his attention to Mr. Parsons first understanding of the situation was that Markwardt wanted money. At first it seems as if he is a snob, but when thought over it allows the reader to see how charitable he really is. Parsons continued to stand there patiently listening to the story about how he became blind, being told as if he was the villain, by the person wronged him in the story. However, when Markwardt then has the audacity to tell Mr. Parsons the bad things he had experienced after being trampled in the dirt and that he tries to forgive the man who harmed him in his heart, but he the man was bigger than Markwardt. Therefore he can’t. Once Markwardt finished the story and Mr. Parsons confronted him, Markwardt then began to lash out at Mr. Parsons, who continued to remained calm throughout his tantrum, was able to level-headedly told him not to make a scene because he was the one who started out with the real disadvantage between the
