Jean Russell of Michigan Insurance Company referred this file for medical case management. Instructions were given to meet with Flavia Tocco and assist with coordination of appropriate and related medical care, and identify needs to facilitate recovery. INTERVIEW SETTING I met Ms. Tocco at the St. John’s physical therapy department. Ms. Tocco was open to providing me information on her current and prior medical history.
The second case I found was about a women name Mayra Handy is was 55. She was the Richard Hardy’s wife, she was bedridden and suffers for multiple sclerosis. When she was found by authorities, she was suffering from sepsis, or severe infection, had open sores, and had feces on her. She had some open sores that were oozing on both of her knees, a bedsore that was about 5 inches in width found on her back. The skin on her back was molted and another oozing sore was found near her feeding tube.
Most of her late adulthood was centered on taking care of her sick husband and mother and church activities. In 2008 her husband Raymond became very sick and later passed away. She then took on the role of taking care of her mother who too became ill. Due to her illness, she moved her mother in her house where she took care of her and accommodated all of her needs for several years before her passing in 2013. 2013 was also the year that her great-great granddaughter was born, making her the sixth generation alive at the time in our family.

At 28 Virginia decided to try love again, she married a man that she calls “love at first sight”. I choose to interview Ms. Bravo owing to the fact that she was the only person there from a different ethnicity background; due to the location of the YMCA there are not many elderly people from different ethnic background. During the interview Mrs. Bravo speaks about her reason she comes to YMCA, her life before and after her husband death and how the music from the active adult classes makes her reminisce about the good times she has shared with her husband and her kids.
Many nurses do not get involved in health care policy even though the nurse should. Most nurses do not know much about health care policies, some view it as “foreign and complex” (Falk, 2014, p. 203). I consider myself one of the nurses that do not know much about health care policy and I am one of the nurses that do not get involved in health care policy. I do not get involved with health care policy because I was never taught about it, so I do not want to get involved in something that I do not know much about. I look forward to learn more about health policies and becoming more involved in health policies.

What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.
