B - ‘A ritual is a set of actions, which often have symbolic value.’ (Elizabeth Hartney, 2014, para. 1) There are many different type of Catholic rituals such as Baptism, Conformation, Penance, Communion and Eucharist, and Anointment of the sick or Last rites. All these different rituals make up the Catholic Ethos of values, attitudes and beliefs. A - The Mt Alvernia College Opening Mass contains rituals, which reflects many of the beliefs and values of our legacy, which was created by the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception the founders of the College. M - During Mt Alvernia College opening mass there were many uses of Symbols and gestures. There was also evidence of a similar structure to a Catholic Mass however a …show more content…

E - This can be seen through the use of the lighting of the College candle which is lit at every assembly, Mass or when ever Mt Alvernia gathers as a community. It is commonly lit by the College captain E - The cloth used to set the Alter during the Eucharist has lots of symbolic value to the Missionary Franciscan Sisters but to the College as well, it is a traditional L - All these different uses of symbols and gestures tie back into how the Mass at Mt Alvernia is structured, and how different it is to a traditional Catholic Mass. P - Although Mt Alvernia is a Catholic school we follow the tradition of St Francis, this makes the Opening Mass different from a traditional Catholic Mass. E - In a traditional Catholic Mass the Apostles Creed is said, however in a Franciscan Mass the Franciscan Creed is said by everyone. E - L - The use of different prayers, all make the Mass different from a Catholic Mass this provides the Mt Alvernia girls with a sense of who they are and why the Franciscan Mass is different from a Catholic Mass. P - Mt Alvernia College uses community as a large role in the Mass, this helps the Mt Alvernia girls understand their origins
