Much Ado About Nothing: Act 2 Scene 1 Beatrice
Much Ado About Nothing. One of Shakespeare later and more famous comedies tells the story of two sets of lovers: the conventional Claudio and Hero, and the seemingly antagonistic Beatrice and Benedick. Much Ado shows us two types of love that exist, the first being a physical love based on looks and the second one being a more intimate love that stems from hate, it gives us an idea of the opinions of love present in Shakespeare’s mind because he is almost comparing the 2 sides of the metaphorical “coin” of love. In Act 2 Scene 1 a lot is revealed about the personality of Beatrice the quick witted, guarded, cold and sometimes mean cousin of Hero as she talks to her Father and Leonato about her feelings of marriage, love and masculinity.
Beatrice’s personality is very hard to understand because she is vulnerable yet extremely guarded because she has been hurt before. NIshan Panwar a well-known motivational speaker has said, “The best way to prevent your heart from getting broken, is to act like you don't have one”. This quote in my opinion is very useful in understanding the character of Beatrice, and in my opinion it means that, everyone who acts heartless used to be different but they have just been hurt too many

In the cycle of love first is the “wooing dance” which is all “hot and hasty” meaning it all happens really fast and is very intense, then comes the ‘wedding dance’ which is ‘full of state and ancientry’ because it is strict and boring, then last comes the ‘long dance of repentance’ in which the people start to regret things, everything goes wrong and they keep on ‘dancing until they die’, the dying part could mean either literal death or the end of the marriage and both get the point
