Born on January 17th, 1942, Muhammad’s legacy quickly became know. With a total 56 wins and five losses, he easily ranked as one of the greatest athletes of the twentieth century. Ali’s legacy lived not only in the ring though. While not dancing around in the ring he pursued a life of politics, poetry, music, acting, religion, and charity. In 1964 Cassius became Muhammad, converting the Nation of Islam. But his life did not stop just there; he received criminal offenses from draft evasion in the Vietnam War. He showed it was okay to stand up for what you believe in, no matter the consequence. Ali was smart and well aware of his consequence in converting to Islam. The boxing commissioners were worried Ali would lose support from both his black and white supporters, and while he did lose support in the beginning, at the end of the day he was still the beloved Muhammad Ali (Bates). Finally, Muhammad Ali used his gifts to crack at world peace. Ali did not simply sit back hoping his visions would come true, it was Muhammad who first contacted the United Nations, and it was Muhammad who pushed for peace all across the Earth. The title “The Greatest” does not simply refer to his work in the ring, but it exemplifies his personal compassion (Press, EDITH M. LEDERER Associated). Clearly, Muhammad Ali was one of the most influential people to have lived. Few people in the United and States and the world have never heard of Muhammad Ali. He set an inspiring example to people through his work ethic, tenaciousness, benevolence, and passion for what he did. Cassius Clay’s talents reached from the ring, to the courtroom, to politics, to religion, and even to the entertainment industry.
