North Park University is a private university located in the North Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Also known colloquially as NPU, the university was founded in 1891 by Swedish immigrants who were members of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The university has changed drastically over the years, and while it recognizes its Christian history, it has developed into a liberal arts university that promotes multiculturalism and diversity.
North Park University has a small, urban campus of around thirty-three acres. There are 2,200 undergraduates enrolled. Of the student population, slightly more than sixty percent are women. The university is selective in who it accepts, and along with a strong GPA and standardized test score, prospective students are encouraged to write an essay and participate in a number of extracurricular activities.

The friendly locals, nearby parks, and easy access to public transportation are all perks to living on campus. However, a number of students have mentioned that the neighborhood surrounding the university can be unsafe at night. Students are encouraged to be alert when walking at night, as there have been reports of robberies in the area.
North Park University is heralded as being a diverse campus, where people are accepted despite their cultural background or religious beliefs. In addition, students generally regard living on campus as an enjoyable experience, where they are given large, modern dorm rooms.
North Park University does not have an active Greek presence. However, there are a number of student organizations that are geared towards various educational disciplines, hobbies, and interests. In addition, the university holds an annual Santa Lucia Festival in December, where a number of Swedish customs and traditions are upheld.
