197 Words1 Pages
Merricat on multiple occasions’ talks about how she dreams to go to the moon with Constance. “On the moon we have everything. Lettuce, and pumpkin pie and Amanita phalloides. We have cat-furred plants and horses dancing with their wings. All the locks are solid and tight, and there are no ghosts.” Early Indians believe that a full moon is symbolic of the height of power, the peak of clarity, fullness and obtainment of desire. These symbols of the moon tie in with the idea of the Blackwoods isolation and their feelings of superiority. The reasoning of why Merricat wanted to be on the moon was to be isolated with Constance and to be far away from the townspeople. Merricat is fond of nature, she believes everything is alive and can talk to her.
