Born on November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont, he grew up in a middle-class family in Tacoma, Washington, where he was described as a shy and introverted child. Despite his unassuming demeanor, Bundy had a fascination with violence and sex from an early age. Bundy's first known murder was that of Karen Sparks, a college student in Seattle, in January 1974. To be quite honest, I have never heard of James”Whitey” Bulger, and I was born and raised in the city of Boston. My family has resided in Boston since the early 1970’s and they have never mentioned him. Therefore, in order to write this paper and actually know who is James “Whitey” Bulger, I watched the recent film Black Mass which is based on his story. I found the Bulger story to be quite terrifying and unbelievable, I believe the film did a great job portraying his life as a gangster in Boston. Bulger story gives a perfect demonstration of the criminological theories we have discussed in class.
During the 1920s multiple criminal activities were taking place and the majority of illegal activity was due to the eighteenth amendment which prohibited the selling and manufacture of alcohol. Illegal activity that took place was bootlegging and the establishment of speakeasies. With criminal activity on the rise, a major criminal behind many illegal activities at the time was Al Capone. In addition, the Mafia rose with gambling, bootlegging, and illegal marketing.

“ Those who have been exonerated each spent an average of 14 years in prison, and some even up to 35 or more years...but they also usually have to wait a few more years if and before they are exonerated (Innocence Project).” This Explains that to be able to become free you have to still be in for years . The perpetrators and or suspects who were caught, “148: True suspects and/or perpetrators identified. After watching "Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes," I was struck by the disturbing nature of Bundy's crimes and the way in which he was able to manipulate those around him. The documentary portrayed Bundy as a master of deception who was able to charm his victims and evade capture for years, all while leading a seemingly normal life. One example from the documentary that stood out to me was Bundy's use of disguises to avoid detection. The documentary showed how Bundy would change his appearance and adopt different personas to blend in with his surroundings and avoid suspicion. For example, he would wear a fake cast or use crutches to appear less threatening, or he would wear a police uniform to gain access to his victims.
Theodore Robert Bundy was an American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, and necrophile who battered and murdered an abundance of young women and girls during the 1970s and earlier. Shortly before his implementation, after more than a decade of disavowals, he confessed to thirty homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978. The true victim count remains unknown, and many believe that it is much higher. Bundy was observed as handsome and charismatic by his young female victims, traits he exploited to win their trust. He typically contacted them in public places, feigning injury or disability, before overshadowing and assaulting them at locations that were more isolated.
The late sixties and early seventies were mostly known as a time of overseas war and stateside flower power. Although for the Northern California communities, it was a time of fear and desperation. During this time a man, a psychopath really, was terrorizing the people with his deranged antics. This man was, and still is, one of the most well known and dangerous serial killers that the United States has ever produced.
The police did not even notice he was gone until 16 hours later, but it was too late because he was already miles away in Florida. The second escape, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, he just walked out the front door and no one stopped him. During the time he was on the run, he stole a car, took a plane, and killed more women at florida university. Unfortunately, he got caught, and finally only admitted to 36 killings, out of one hundred. January 23rd 1989, only hours before he would not be alive anymore, Ted Bundy said he felt tranquil and that he did not feel guilt of what he had become, but said he did not want to die.
Ted’s violent side was thought to be inherited from his grandfather who had allegedly raped and abused Ted’s mother. This lead many to believe that Ted’s grandfather was actually his father. Ted in his early life also believed this, therefore he became a role model for Ted which shows why Ted would eventually carry this violent side in his life. Ted’s biological father was never known. This meant that she dated a string of men and one of these men became her husband and was a major influence on Ted and he lead him to change his name to Ted Bundy.
Ted Bundy was a notorious serial murderer who’s reign of terror lasted from 1974 to 1978. Bundy was convicted of three homicides and was sentenced to death for all three charges. However, at the time of his execution, Bundy confessed to 30 murders however the exact number of victims is still unknown. Bundy’s crimes evolved over time but he was both a sexual sadist and a necrophiliac serial killer. At the beginning of his rampage, Bundy would sneak into the victims house in the middle of the night, violently attack them while they were sleeping with a blunt object and then Bundy would usually sexually assault them.
