Marie Delphine LaLaurie tortured innocent slaves due to her family’s murders during the slave uprising of 1811. After her family’s deaths all three of her husband’s mysteriously died or disappeared. Her first husband, Don Ramon De Lopez y Angullo was a high ranking Spanish officer and died on March 26, 1804 mysteriously during a falling out with the king of Spain. Her second husband Jean Blanque was a prominent banker, merchant, lawyer, legislator, and well-known slave trader. The Worst Crime: Matt’s or Richard’s “Killings”, written by Andre Dubus, illustrates how the death of a loved one may lead to dire consequences for all the parties included. Matt Fowler’s son, Frank, was murdered in cold blood by a jealous soon-to-be ex-husband, Richard Strout. When the death of Frank sunk into the lives of the Fowler’s, Matt believed he had to retaliate in some sort of fashion. The sort of fashion he chose was to seek revenge and kill Richard for his wrongdoings, which he did. Some people believe that the murder committed by Richard Strout can be considered more serious because of his act of passion and his lackadaisical style of living without worrying about his future.
In Janet Malcolm’s book the Journalist and the Murderer uses element of nonfiction where it gives an observation of the relationship between writer Joe McGinnis and convicted murder Jeffery Macdonald. The elements that Malcolm focuses on through out the paper include the characterization on how McGinnis acted towards MacDonald to earn his trust and change his view of the story; as well as MacDonald as a character himself and McGinnis character no longer having a connection to his subject. Gary Kinder’s book, Victim: The Other Side of Murder, offers a disturbing record of the murder and attempted murder of five individuals in a murder/robbery planned by an individual who should have never been free to commit such a heinous crime to begin with. Should a twelve year old like Nathaniel Brazill who killed his teacher when he made him angry be locked up in prison for the rest of his life? I do not agree with the statement that teenagers that commit a murder should get life without parole in prison. I do not agree with this because it is unfair to everybody not just the victim. Obviously if someone commits a murder the rightful thing to do would be to pay for their mistakes, but in most cases like in Nathaniel Brazil’s the victim did not deserve to be murdered, but the murder had no self control either. Everybody should be more considering about people because you never know what they go through at home, it’s not an excuse for what they have done, but to understand why.

Esperanza Cordero is a young girl who lives in the small red house on mango street in Chicago,Illinois who dreams through the story that she would one day buy a big white house with spacious rooms and all to herself, “One that I could point to.”(pg.5). The book are separated through small chapters or vignettes about small clips about the main character,esperanza’s life that give small details that are important in the other vignettes. Esperanza’s life is filled with important people and impactful experiences. “The House On Mango Street” starts with Esperanza painting a picture of her new house that her family just moved into,she mentions her previous residences and why they had to leave them. For an example the Cordero family had to leave their flat in Loomis because a water pipe broke and the landlord couldn't fix it because the building was too old.

“Killings” written by Andre Dubus is focused on the main character and protagonist Matt Fowler. Matt is the father of three known children in the story, Cathleen, Steve, and his youngest, Frank. Matt had his children with his wife and business partner Ruth Fowler. In the beginning of the story Matt is laying his youngest son, Frank, to rest in the cemetery after he was brutally murdered by the story’s main antagonist, Richard Strout. At the time of his death, Frank was in school and majoring in economics (63) and had a very bright future ahead of him, after all, he was only twenty eight years old.
